THE Beast from the East has left a long-lasting mark on parts of the UK after treacherous weather stripped a beach of all its sand.
Shocking before and after pictures of the beach at Whitley Bay, North Tyneside show the astonishing transformation following days of Siberian icy blasts and heavy snow showers.
The previous golden sands have been stripped away, leaving nothing more than a rocky expanse in its place following several days of battering from the 'Beast from the East'.
Rough seas and strong winds have swept huge swathes of sand away from the shore, revealing the hard, rocky terrain beneath.
A dog walker said: "It's like being on the moon. I walk my dog here every day and I have never known anything like it."
Other parts of the North East have seen similar transformations, with snow drifts turning to brown slush as snow blew off beaches and landed elsewhere.
Images from Seaton Carew show roads and vehicles turned brown as gale force winds carried swathes of sand away, blanketing neighbouring streets.
The Siberian icy blasts that battered the UK last week have also stripped the beach near Winterton-on-Sea in Norfolk, leaving stretches of it bare.

The Beast from the East also turned a bare beach in North Yorkshire into an unexpected tourist attraction.
High winds and violent waters washed away swathes of sand from Redcar beach, revealing the remains of an old forest and even parts of a shipwreck.
Experts believe the forest originally formed part of Doggerland, an ancient stretch of sparsely populated land that once connected the UK to mainland Europe.
The 7,000 year old secret woodland, known as the ‘petrified forest’, was first noticed by locals in 1871.
